This European Standard covers the definitions and properties of flexible reinforced bituminous sheets for roofing purposes. This includes sheets used as top layers, interlayers and sublayers. It does not include reinforced bitumen boards for waterproofing, used as a backing for discontinuous roof coverings.
This European Standard does not cover waterproofing sheets specified in EN 14695, intended to be used fully bonded under bituminous products applied directly at high temperature (eg asphalt).
Where a tolerance is limited by this standard, it is not required to be declared by the manufacturer. When tested for purposes other than initial type testing or factory production control, tests to determine the product characteristics specified in this standard should be initiated within one month from the date of delivery from the manufacturer.
Where necessary, the impact resistance should be determined in accordance with EN 12691 and expressed as the maximum drop height of the drilling tool in millimeters that does not cause leakage of the flexible plate.
The purpose of the test according to EN 1296 is to characterize the long-term thermal stability of elastomeric or plastomeric bitumen. The test does not yield results that correspond to the terms of service in the application. Results should only be used to compare products of similar thickness, structure and composition and cannot be used for general durability classification. The exposure time chosen for artificial aging according to EN 1296 has nothing to do with an actual product life.
Tests previously carried out in accordance with the provisions of this standard may be considered on products of the same or similar design, construction, provided that they have been carried out under the same conformity certification system, using the same or more stringent test method.
