ISO 13468-1 Determination of Total Light Transmittance of Plastics, Transparent Materials - Part 1: Single Beam Instrument

This standard covers the determination of the total light transmittance in the visible region of the spectrum of planar transparent and substantially colorless plastics using a single-beam photometer with a specific CIE Standard light source and photodetector.

This standard cannot be used for plastics containing fluorescent materials. This standard applies to transparent molding materials, films and sheets with a thickness not exceeding 10 mm.

Total light transmission can also be determined with a dual beam spectrophotometer as in ISO 13468-2. However, this document provides a simple but precise, practical and quick determination. This method is suitable not only for analytical purposes but also for quality control.

Substantially colorless plastics include pale colored ones. Samples thicker than 10 mm can be measured provided the instrument can accommodate them, but results may not be comparable to those obtained using samples less than 10 mm thick.
