ISO 14309 Rubber, Vulcanized or Thermoplastic, Standard Test for Determination of Volume and Surface Resistance

Although rubbers are generally seen as insulating materials, they can be combined with a certain amount of carbon black or ionizable components to make them electrically conductive or energy-consuming. Therefore, the range of electrical resistance to be measured is very wide. However, high accuracy is difficult to achieve for measurements in the high resistance range due to a number of factors.

In this standard, the shielded electrode system is used to determine the resistance of rubber test pieces, as it is considered a good compromise between minimizing errors by removing leakage currents and using more cumbersome measuring instruments.

The methods specified in this standard were originally designed for the determination of both the surface and bulk resistivity of insulating rubber materials, but their use can be extended to cover the high to low resistivity range.
