EN 20-2 Standard Test for Determination of Protective Efficacy against Wood Preservatives, Lyctus Brunneus (Stephens)

This part of EN 20 specifies a method for determining the protective efficacy or toxic values ​​of a wood preservative against infestation by Lyctus brunneus (Stephens) on wood previously treated with full impregnation.

This method applies to:

• Water-insoluble chemicals investigated as active insecticides or,
• Organic formulations as prepared or supplied in the laboratory by dilution of concentrates.

This part of EN 20 describes a laboratory test method that provides a basis for evaluating the effectiveness of a wood preservative against Lyctus brunneus. It allows to determine the concentration at which the preservative completely prevents the development of infestation from spawning in fully impregnated wood of sensitive species.

The Lyctus brunneus strain was chosen because of its particular practical suitability and ease of use in laboratory tests. The method can be used with other lyctid species, but results may not be comparable to those obtained with Lyctus brunneus.

Test samples are enriched with a defined nutrient solution prior to spawning to ensure uniformity of nutritional quality of test samples between different laboratories.
