ISO 13964 Air Quality, Determination of Ozone in Ambient Air, Ultraviolet Photometric Method

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 13964 standard. This International standard for calibration specifies ultraviolet photometry as the primary reference procedure because of its proven accuracy and specificity to ozone.

The use of secondary reference procedures (often called transfer standards), including non-UV methods, is permitted if they have been previously calibrated with the primary UV reference procedure.

Sample air is drawn continuously from an optical absorption cell where it is irradiated longitudinally with monochromatic radiation centered at 253,7 nm from a fixed low pressure mercury (Hg) discharge lamp. UV radiation passing through the absorption cell is measured by a sensitive photodiode or photomultiplier detector and converted into a measurable electrical signal.

The absorption of this radiation by the sample air inside the absorption cell is a measure of the ozone concentration in the environment. An ozone catalytic converter is used to selectively remove ozone from the sample stream. This can be done for the sample absorption cell (single cell configuration) or for a separate but identical reference absorption cell (double cell configuration); both configurations are acceptable.
