ISO 15360-1 Recycled Pulps - Estimation of Adhesives and Plastics - Visual method

This part of ISO 15360 specifies a method for estimating adhesives and plastics in a wide variety of doughs, including all doughs.

This method will only capture adhesives and plastics left on the screen with a certain slit size. It should be noted that this is probably not the total amount of adhesive and plastic actually present in a given dough sample.

Adhesives are a diverse group of materials that are held on a laboratory screen with a certain slit opening and adhere to the objects they touch, and they can stick objects at ambient temperature or adopt adhesive properties when exposed to high temperature, high pressure or PH change.

Plastics are polymers that are held in a laboratory screen at a specified slit opening, but are non-adhesive, excluding cellulosic materials.

A sample of crushed pulp is passed through a laboratory strainer at a defined slit until the filtrate is clear. The remaining material on the sieve is removed and transferred to the filter paper. Adhesives and plastics are identified and their total numbers and areas are estimated separately.

The illumination device is a suitable light source for examining filter papers containing sticky and plastic particles in reflected light. The light will be strong enough to make all particles with the agreed minimum area visible.
