EN ISO 527-1 Plastics, Determination of Tensile Properties, Part 1: General Principles Test Standard

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN ISO 527-1 standard. This standard specifies general principles for determining the tensile properties of plastics and plastic composites under defined conditions.

Several different types of test specimens have been defined to suit the different types of materials described in detail in later sections of EN ISO 527.

The methods are used to investigate the tensile behavior of test specimens and determine other aspects of the tensile strength, tensile modulus and tensile strain relationship under defined conditions.

The methods are selectively suitable for use with the following materials:

• Rigid and semi-rigid molding, extrusion and casting thermoplastic materials, including filled and reinforced compounds, in addition to unfilled types; rigid and semi-rigid thermoplastic sheets and films;
• Hard and semi-rigid thermosetting molding materials, including filled and reinforced compounds;
• Rigid and semi-rigid thermosetting sheets, including laminates;
• Fiber-reinforced thermosets and thermoplastic composites with unidirectional or non-unidirectional reinforcements, such as straw, woven fabrics, woven cords, chopped strands, combination and hybrid reinforcement, rovings and milled fibers; 
• Thermotropic liquid crystal polymers.

The methods are not suitable for use with solid cellular materials or sandwich structures containing cellular materials ordinarily using ISO 1926.
