ISO 15797 Textiles - Industrial Washing and Finishing Procedures for Testing Workwear

Developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the ISO 15797 standard specifies test procedures and equipment that can be used in the evaluation of work clothing (including, where appropriate, some PPE clothing) intended for industrial washing.

They serve as a basis for testing related properties such as dimensional stability, color properties, wrinkling, seam puckering, pilling, and visual aspects in general.

ISO 15797 does not provide instructions and specifications for procedures and equipment to be used by industrial launderers.

Because it is often impractical to repeat industrial laundry operations (washing and drying/finishing) in a laboratory setting, this document provides an approach using defined intermediate-scale equipment and rigorous testing procedures that can be used to evaluate workwear intended to be washed. industrially.

Because ISO 15797 reflects a simulation of real-life industrial laundry conditions, in some cases, testing of workwear on real industrial laundry equipment and the processes it is intended to be used in is recommended when ultimately determining product and process compatibility.

It is not necessary to test using all eight washing procedures or both drying procedures. A selection is made from the washing and drying procedure(s) most suitable for the characteristics of the fabric or fabric composition and the intended use.

This standard enables textile manufacturers to test their fabrics and garments for resistance to the rigorous washing and drying processes used in industrial laundries for care and maintenance purposes.

Rigorous testing in an industrial laundry environment is impractical, and this document allows testing to be performed under standard conditions in a more rigorous laboratory environment using intermediate stage equipment.

This is a standard test method and is not intended as an instruction or recommendation on how to wash and dry in an industrial laundry. It also does not provide specifications for equipment to be used by industrial launderers. A wash cycle consists of a wash and a drying/finish procedure.
