EN 843-1 Advanced Technical Ceramics - Test for Determination of Flexural Strength

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 843-1 testing. This standard specifies methods for determining the nominal flexural strength of advanced monolithic technical ceramic materials at ambient temperature.

Available loading geometries are three- and four-point bending using rectangular cross-section test pieces of two predicted geometries: 20mm support span and 40mm support span.

This part of EN 843 differs from ISO 14704 in the A spacing (not included in the ISO version), the absence of a 30 mm clearance option, and the required use of a fully articulated test jig.

The test is valid for materials with a grain size of less than 200 µm.

The test identifies four categories of surface finishes applied to test pieces:

  • Baked or annealed after processing;
  • Standard finishing by grinding;
  • Standard finishing by lapping/polishing;
  • Machined using agreed grinding procedures and material removal rates.
