ISO 16549 Textile - Evenness of Textile Yarns - Capacitance Method

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ISO 16549 testing. This standard describes a method using capacitance measuring equipment to determine linear density unevenness along the length of textile strips.

ISO 16549 Textile - Evenness of Textile Yarns - Capacitance Method

The method can be applied to tops, strip, roving, spun yarns and continuous filament yarns made from natural or man-made fibers in the range of 4 tex (g/km) to 80 ktex (kg/km) for staple. It ranges from 1 tex (g/km) to 600 tex (g/km) for fiber slivers and continuous filament yarns.

It does not apply to fancy yarns or strips made entirely or partially of conductive materials such as metals; the latter requires an optical sensor and raw silk filaments tested to a specific standard. The method describes the preparation of a variance-length curve as well as the determination of periodicities of linear density.

The yarn is wound around a panel with the specified winding density based on the linear density of the yarn. The panel can be rectangular or trapezoidal and should be of a contrasting colour. Trapezoidal panels produce a moire effect, emphasizing short-term irregularities in the yarn.

Panels are evaluated visually using agreed lighting. It may be helpful to tilt the panel during evaluation.
