Developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the ISO 17696 standard specifies a test method for assessing the tear strength of uppers, linings and inner socks or complete upper assemblies, regardless of material, to assess suitability for end use.
Test specimens may be cut from materials likely to be used for uppers or socks, or from make-up uppers or finished shoes. When the liner material is permanently attached to the top material, test pieces from the complete top assemblies
