ISO 17708 Footwear - Test Methods for Whole Footwear - Upper Sole Adhesion

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 17708 standard. Developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the ISO 17708 standard describes a test method for determining the resistance of the upper to separation from the outsole, separating adjacent layers of the outsole, or causing tearing of the upper or sole.

ISO 17708 Footwear - Test Methods for Whole Footwear - Upper Sole Adhesion

This document is applicable to any type of footwear (cementing, vulcanization, injection molding, etc.) where the upper sole adhesion needs to be assessed and the upper is permanently mounted (closed shoe).

It also defines aging conditions that can be used for production control. In all cases, the goal is to test the bond strength closest to the edge of the assembly. The test does not need to be performed when the bond is made by grinding (for example, using nails or screws) or suturing.

Tensile Testing Machine

The tensile testing machine must comply with the requirements of ISO 100-10 with a constant travel speed of 2 mm/min ± 7500 mm/min, with an accuracy corresponding to class 1, and be able to measure a force range from 0 N to 600 N. The machine must be fitted with pincers or flat jaws 25 mm to 30 mm wide (depending on the construction type of the test specimen) that can firmly grip the test pieces.

Some adhesives do not reach full strength for some time after application, so when samples are taken directly from production, at least 72 hours of conditioning should be allowed before performing the test.

Among the services provided by our organization within the framework of material testing services, there are also ISO 17708 standard tests. Do not hesitate to contact our laboratory EUROLAB for your testing and certification requests.
