The skein method provides two forms of measurement, manual and automatic. The single-ended method gives the result by manual measurement. In case of dispute, the manual measurement procedure will be used.

If these methods are not practicable, relevant test methods can be agreed upon between the interested parties. ISO 18067 is applicable to synthetic filament yarns with a linear density of less than 3000 dtex. ISO 18067 does not apply to partially oriented yarns.

Under certain conditions, a test sample is processed in dry-hot air. The shrinkage is calculated as the variation in the measured length before and after treatment.
