EN 772-11 Test Methods for Masonry Units - Part 11: Aggregate Concrete - Autoclaved Aerated Concrete - Determination of Water Absorption Rate of Manufactured Stone and Natural Stone Masonry Units Due to Capillary Action

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 772-11 test. This European standard covers the method for determining the capillary water absorption coefficient for aggregate concrete, autoclaved aerated concrete, natural stone and finished stone masonry units and the initial water absorption rate for clay masonry units.

EN 772-11 Test Methods for Masonry Units - Part 11: Aggregate Concrete - Autoclaved Aerated Concrete - Determination of Water Absorption Rate of Manufactured Stone and Natural Stone Masonry Units Due to Capillary Action

After drying to a constant mass, one side of the masonry unit is immersed in water for a certain period of time and the increase in mass is determined. In the case of clay masonry units, the initial absorption rate of the bed face is measured. In the case of aggregate concrete, autoclave aerated concrete, natural stone and finished stone masonry units, the water absorption of the exposed face of the unit is measured as described in the relevant product standard.

The sampling method must comply with the relevant part of EN 771. The minimum number of samples should be six, but a larger minimum number may be specified in the product specification, in which case the larger number should be used.

Dry test specimens to constant mass in a ventilated oven at 70°C ± 5°C for aggregate concrete, autoclaved aerated concrete, natural stone and finished stone masonry units or at 105°C ± 5°C for clay masonry units. In two consecutive weighings 24 hours apart during the drying process, constant mass is reached if the mass loss between two determinations is not more than 0,1% of the total mass.
