ISO 18219 Leather - Standard Test for Determination of Chlorinated Hydrocarbons in Leather

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ISO 18219 testing. This standard specifies a chromatographic method for determining the C10 to C13 amount of short chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) in treated and untreated leathers.

ISO 18219 Leather - Standard Test for Determination of Chlorinated Hydrocarbons in Leather

Short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCP) are classified as environmentally hazardous as they are very toxic to aquatic organisms and may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment.

The test sample is extracted using n-hexane at 60°C in an ultrasonic bath for 60 minutes. After the SPE has been cleared, an aliquot is analyzed using a gas chromatograph fitted to a mass selective detector with chemical ionization (GC-ECNI-MS).

Sampling will be done according to ISO 2418. If sampling according to ISO 2418 is not possible (e.g. leather from finished products such as shoes, clothing, etc.), the details of sampling should be specified in the test report. Glue residues should be mechanically removed from leather samples.

Leather samples should be ground or cut into smaller pieces no larger than 4044 mm to 2 mm in accordance with ISO 3.
