ISO 188 Rubber, Vulcanized or Thermoplastic, Accelerated Aging and Heat Resistance Tests

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ISO 188 testing. ISO 188 specifies accelerated aging or heat resistance tests on vulcanized or thermoplastic rubbers.

Two methods are given:

• Method A: air furnace method using cell furnace or cabinet furnace with low air velocity and ventilation of 3 to 10 changes per hour;
• Method B: The air-furnace method using a cabinet furnace with forced air circulation through a fan and ventilation of 3 to 10 changes per hour.

Accelerated aging and heat resistance tests are designed to estimate rubber's relative resistance to degradation over time. To this end, the rubber is subjected to controlled degradation effects for certain periods, after which the appropriate properties are measured and compared with the corresponding properties of the uncured rubber.

When it comes to heat resistance tests, rubber is subjected to long periods at the same temperature as it will experience in service.
