ISO 19833 Furniture - Mattress - Test Methods for Determining Stability, Strength and Durability

Developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the ISO 19833 standard specifies test methods for determining the stability, strength and durability of any fully assembled mattress, including bed frames and bases.

ISO 19833 Furniture - Mattress - Test Methods for Determining Stability, Strength and Durability

ISO 19833 applies to adult beds for indoor and outdoor use. It does not apply to waterbeds, air mattresses, folding beds, bunk beds and beds with special needs, and beds for health and medical purposes.

Test methods for aging, deterioration, fire resistance and evaluation of electrical functions are not included in this document.

Other methods for strength and durability of storage components, seating surfaces, and other bearing-related features are covered by other standards. Where a bed includes additional functions such as storage, electrical adjustability or converting from a sofa to a bed, additional testing may be applied.

ISO 19833 does not specify requirements for the selection of loads, cycles or forces. These can be specified in a requirements document. If this is not available, recommended loads and cycles can be found in Appendix A.

The tests are not intended to evaluate the durability of flooring, for example infills and covers.

ISO 19833 defines test methods for determining the stability, strength and durability of all fully assembled mattress types, including bedsteads and plinths.
