It can be applied to all kinds of textile floor coverings with a flat surface and construction. It is not applicable to other textile floor coverings unless areas of different thickness or structure can be tested separately.
The sample is subjected to a cyclic loading process, in which a piece of weight with two steel feet on the underside repeatedly falls freely onto the sample. The sample is moved slowly so that the vertical shear forces produced by the edges of the feet act on the required area of the sample.
The thickness of the sample is measured before and after processing by the procedure specified in ISO 1765, but ISO 1765's requirement that a change in level not be measured within 20 mm does not apply.
