ISO 21207 Accelerated Corrosion Tests Including Exposure to Corrosive Gases, Neutral Salt Spray and Alternative Drying

ISO 21207 identifies two accelerated corrosion testing methods to be used to evaluate the corrosion resistance of metal products primarily in environments where chloride ions, such as sodium chloride or road de-icing salt from a marine source, have a significant impact.

This International Standard specifies both test apparatus and test procedures to be used in conducting accelerated corrosion tests.

The methods are particularly suitable for assessing the corrosion resistance of sensitive metal-containing products, such as electronic components used in traffic and industrial environments.

Equipment used for testing;

• The inner chamber and the gas flow system consist of inert materials. PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) or glass to prevent or minimize the adsorption of hostile gases on surfaces outside the test panels;
• The airflow and hostile gas injection system is designed to provide uniform test conditions in the cabin interior or work area.

To ensure uniform test conditions in the work area, the test atmosphere is normally supplied to the work area from below and the outlet is located on the top. Perforated plates are placed in front of the vents to ensure even airflow throughout the work area.
