ISO 22241-2 Diesel Engines - NOx Reducing Agent AUS 32 - Part 2: Test Methods

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 22241-2 standard. Developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), this part of the ISO 22241 standard specifies test methods for determining the quality and chemical properties of the NOx reducing agent AUS 22241 (aqueous urea solution) as specified in ISO 1-32.

ISO 22241-2 Diesel Engines - NOx Reducing Agent AUS 32 - Part 2: Test Methods

The sampling method specified in this annex applies to each AUS 32 sample throughout the supply chain after the vehicles are shipped from the manufacturer's site to AUS 32 containers.

The limits for AUS 22241 quality characteristics specified in ISO 1-32 are representative analytical results that can only be obtained if the sample is protected from any contamination prior to analysis. For this reason, suitable bottles that do not contaminate the sample especially in terms of trace elements should be used for sampling.

Possible Contaminants

During the sampling process, foreign matter may contaminate the sample. Under realistic conditions, the following sources of contamination would pose a great danger:

  • Residues of process aids used for the production of sample bottles;
  • Contaminants accumulated in empty bottles during their empty storage;
  • Airborne contaminants during sampling, ie dust or any foreign matter in the environment;
  • Residues of cleaning agents that have also been used to clean sampling equipment and bottles;
  • Fuel.

For this test method ISO 22241-2, 1000 ml wide neck bottles will be used. Suitable materials for these bottles are high density polyethylene (HDPE), high density polypropylene (HDPP), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and perfluoroalkoxy alkane (PFA). Before first use with the AUS 32, the bottles should be cleaned and finally rinsed with deionized water followed by the AUS 32.

The locked wide neck bottle should be opened and placed on a clean surface with the cap facing down. After the sampling tube has been rinsed, the bottle will be completely filled with AUS 32 from the container. The first fill will be discarded and the bottle immediately refilled with AUS 32 and tightly capped. The label must be affixed to the bottle. During the filling of the sample, utmost care should be taken not to allow dust or liquid contaminants to enter the bottle.

The filled bottle should reach the laboratory as soon as possible. During transport and storage, the sample should be kept at the lowest possible temperature, preferably between 0 °C and 15 °C. It is recommended that the analysis be done within three weeks to account for possible changes in ammonia content.

Among the services provided by our organization within the framework of material testing services, there are also ISO 22241-2 standard tests. Do not hesitate to contact our laboratory EUROLAB for your testing and certification requests.
