EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of IEC 61300-3-23 standard. This part of the IEC 61300 standard is for measuring the fiber position relative to the ring end surface of a spherically polished ring, ie a fiber undercut or a fiber ridge.
The fiber undercut +w or ridge –w of a spherically polished ring is defined as the average distance between a fiber end surface and a virtual spherical surface fitted to the end surface of the spherically polished ring. A circle region of the ferrule end face centered on the ferrule axis is assumed to be spherical although in practice the end face is usually aspheric.
This standard describes three methods for measuring fiber undercut or bulge:
IEC 61300-3-23 Test Method 1
The apparatus consists of a suitable ring holder, a positioning stage and a two-dimensional surface analyzer. The ferrule holder is a convenient device for holding the collet in a fixed vertical position or, in the case of an angled collet type, in an inclined position. The ferrule holder is fixed to the positioning stage, which will allow the holder to be moved to the appropriate position. The stage will have sufficient rigidity to measure the ferrule end face to a precision of a few nanometers.
IEC 61300-3-23 Test Method 2
The apparatus consists of a suitable ring holder, a positioning stage and a three-dimensional interferometry analyzer.
IEC 61300-3-23 Test Method 3
The apparatus consists of a suitable ring holder, a positioning stage and a two-dimensional interferometry analyzer.
