ISO 23936 does not cover polymeric coatings, such as thermal insulation and paint, applied to the outside of components but not in contact with oilfield fluids.
The purpose of the evaluation and qualification process described in this section of ISO 23936 is to ensure that the user of non-metallic materials has sufficient knowledge and understanding of the applicable materials to achieve acceptable performance in the specified environment and that the user can rely on stable materials. A quality system is useful to ensure compliance with the requirements of this part of ISO 23936.
The successful qualification of a manufacturer and of a particular material is intended to be applicable to other projects and different operators. Evaluation of a manufacturer's qualification is at the discretion and judgment of the purchaser, normally based on the documentation provided by the manufacturer as required in this part of ISO 23936 or any special supplementary documentation.
The buyer is responsible for ensuring that selected manufacturers are qualified (with external qualification if necessary). This part of ISO 23936 is based on the NORSOK standard M-710.
