ISO 2411 Rubber or Plastic Coated Fabrics - Standard Test for Determination of Coating Adhesion

This standard specifies a method for determining the coating adhesion strength of coated fabrics. inseparable, the coating cannot peel off due to breakage during preparation or testing, indicating that the coating adhesion strength is greater than the coating polymer strength.

ISO 2411 Rubber or Plastic Coated Fabrics - Standard Test for Determination of Coating Adhesion

For all testing purposes, the minimum time between fabrication and testing will be 16 hours. For non-product tests, the maximum time between production and testing should be 4 weeks, and for evaluations intended to be comparable, tests should be performed after the same time interval whenever possible. For products, the period between production and testing shall not exceed 3 months, unless otherwise agreed between the parties concerned.

To determine coating adhesion, all samples shall be taken within the usable width of the coated fabric tested. A total of 10 test samples will be tested. Before being cut to width, each test specimen must have at least 20% extra width of the cut test specimen and must have a length of at least 200 mm.

Five test specimens shall be cut in length parallel to the longitudinal direction and five test specimens shall be cut in length parallel to the transverse direction of the coated fabric under test. In case of fabrics coated with a pile substrate, prepare 10 test samples in the longitudinal direction, 5 in the pile direction and 5 against the pile direction.

Both preparation methods can be used. The preparation method to be accepted is determined by pre-testing if necessary.

Where the coating layer is not strong enough to peel continuously from the substrate, but the coating layer can be clearly identified from the substrate and can be cut separately, face-to-face bonding or welding two test specimens of the same material, using an adhesive system appropriate for the coating type under consideration, within the first 50 mm adhesive clearance is determined.

It is important that the adhesive chosen does not cause the coating to swell irreversibly or otherwise affect the coating/fabric bond strength. Where the coated surface has been treated in any way that could interfere with the coating-coating bond, such as by siliconisation, it is recommended to perform an adhesion test before such treatment is carried out.
