The method measures the effect of the freeze-thaw thermal shock cycle by immersion in saturated deicing salt solution. The method is suitable for repair products and systems and surface protection systems based on CC, PCC and PC binders.

A concrete test sample prepared in accordance with EN 1766 is applied to the reference with a repair mortar, mortar or concrete layer or surface protection system (or both). After curing, the test sample is subjected to a freeze-thaw process. Between (21 ± 2)°C and (-15 ± 2)°C, a thermal shock cycle including immersion in saturated de-icing salt solution is applied. After the temperature cycle, visible defects are recorded and determined by the concrete substrate, tensile test of the repair product or system.
