ISO 289-1 Rubber, Unvulcanized, Determination Using a Shear Disc Viscometer

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ISO 289-1 testing. ISO 289-1 specifies a method using a shear disc viscometer to measure the Mooney viscosity of unbonded or compounded rubbers.

ISO 289-1 Rubber, Unvulcanized, Determination Using a Shear Disc Viscometer

The torque required under certain conditions to rotate a metal disc in a cylindrical chamber made of rubber-filled mating molds is measured. The rubber's resistance to this rotation is expressed in arbitrary units as the Mooney viscosity of the test piece.

The dies are mounted on or form part of slabs equipped with a heating device capable of maintaining the temperature of the slabs and dies within ±0,5 °C of the test temperature.

In the case of insertion of the test piece, the instruments must be capable of returning the temperature of the molds to ±4°C of the test temperature within 0,5 minutes.

In order to control the heat supplied to the molds, each mold must have a temperature sensor to measure the mold temperature. The sensor should be placed for the best possible heat contact with the dies, i.e. heat gaps and other heat resistance should be excluded.
