ISO 29022 Dentistry - Adhesion - Notched Shear Bond Strength Test Standard

This International Standard specifies a shear test method used to determine the adhesive bond strength directly between dental restorative materials and tooth structure, eg dentin or enamel. The described method is mainly intended for dental adhesives. The method includes substrate selection, storage and processing of the tooth structure, as well as the testing procedure.

Testing for adhesion to tooth structure is technique sensitive and experience with the test method is required. With modification, it may be possible to use this method for adhesive restorative materials (eg, glass ionomer materials).

The purpose of this international standard is to establish a simple and easy to use method for documenting the claim that a material adheres to dental material.
