This standard provides a method for the electric radiator drip test used in melting materials. If melt drops appear in NF P92-501 and NF P92-503 tests, whether or not combustion occurs, the NF P92-505 test must be performed.

Evaluation is made according to the M classification system as follows:

  • M1 = non-flammable (calorific value 2508 kJ / kg or less);
  • M2 = Low flammability;
  • M2 = Low flammability (2.5 < q < 15);
  • M3 = Moderate flammability (15 < q < 50);
  • M4 = High flammability (q > 50).

In this classification, the contribution of the material to the fire is mainly based on the ignition time. In general, the NF P92-504 and 505 test methods are complementary tests that should be performed when certain unusual conditions (such as falling burning droplets) are observed. In this case, the results from these two tests are used to determine the M grade.
