EN 12153 Curtain Wall - Standard Test for Air Permeability

This standard defines the method to be used to determine the air permeability of both fixed and operable parts of the curtain wall. Explains how to test the sample under positive and negative air pressure.

The sample will be delivered fully operational and ready for use. It shall be supplied suitable for fixing in a test chamber. The test specimen must either be representative in accordance with EN 13830 or have a width of not less than two typical units and be sufficient to provide full loading on at least one typical vertical connection or framing member, or both. The sample should not receive additional hardness from the test chamber. The height shall not be less than the entire distance between the connection point of the curtain wall to the building structure.

For specially designed shear walls or special elements, the sample shall be of sufficient size to demonstrate compliance with specified requirements.

All parts of the sample shall be of full size using the same material details, methods of construction and fixing as are intended to be used in the works. The conditions for connection to the structural support shall simulate the conditions in the works as accurately as possible.

This standard does not apply to perimeter joints between the curtain wall and the test room or to the joints between the curtain wall and the building construction.
