EN 13284-1 Constant Welding Emissions, Determination of Low Range Dust Mass Concentration, Part 1: Manual Gravimetric Method

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 13284-1 standard. This European standard specifies the standard reference method (SRM) for the measurement of low dust concentration in ducted gas streams at concentrations below 50 mg/m3 at standard conditions.

This European standard was developed and approved primarily for gaseous streams from waste incinerators. More generally, it is applicable to gases emitted from other stationary sources and to higher concentrations.

If the gases contain unstable, reactive or semi-volatile substances, the measurement depends on the sampling and filter treatment conditions. This method has been validated in field tests with special emphasis on dust concentrations around 5 mg/m3.

A sample flow of gas is subtracted from the main gas flow at representative measuring points over a period measured with an isokinetically controlled flow rate and a measured volume. The powder mixed with the gas sample is separated by a pre-weighed flat filter, then dried and reweighed.

Sediments upstream of the filter in the sampling system are also recovered and weighed. The increase in mass of the filter and the mass deposited above the filter are attributed to the dust collected from the sampled gas, allowing the dust concentration to be calculated.
