The procedures described in this International standard are intended to constitute a harmonized set of tests that may be referred to separately or in combination in other individual product standards. Requirements for such tests should be defined and specified within the product standard, along with the number of cycles for each test procedure.
This International standard does not specify any test sequences or any requirements regarding particular instruments. The requirements, test sequence and number of test cycles should be defined in the relevant product standards or left to the discretion of the buyer or manufacturer if no standards exist.
Apart from the boiling water test, the autoclave test is applied to determine the corrosion resistance. In this sense, this International Standard specifies two test methods for determining corrosion resistance. When placing an order, it is intended that the buyer specify whether to perform both tests or which of the two tests. If the buyer does not specify this, the choice is left to the discretion of the manufacturer.
