ISO 34-2 Rubber, Vulcanized or Thermoplastic, Determination of Tear Strength, Part 2: Standard Test for Small (Delft) Test Pieces

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 34-2 standard. ISO 34-2 specifies a method for determining the tear strength of small test pieces (Delft test pieces) of vulcanized or thermoplastic rubber.

The method does not necessarily give results in agreement with the results given by the method described in ISO 34-1 using trouser, gusset and crescent test pieces. It is used in preference to ISO 34-1 where the amount of material available is limited and may be particularly suitable for testing small finished products.

Measure the thickness of the test piece according to ISO 23529, method A. Take at least three gauge readings in the slit region. If an even number of readings are taken, use the average of the two median values ​​as the result. If an odd number of readings are taken, use the median value.
No reading should deviate more than 2% from the value used. If test results are to be used for comparison purposes, the thickness of any test piece should not vary by more than 10% from the average thickness of all test pieces.
