ISO 3668 Paints and Varnishes - Visual Comparison of Color of Paints

The ISO 3668 standard, developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), specifies a method for visually comparing the colors of paints or films of related products against a standard (reference standard or newly prepared standard) using artificial light sources in a standard cabinet.

ISO 3668 Paints and Varnishes - Visual Comparison of Color of Paints

It cannot be applied to coatings containing pigments with special effects, eg metallic, without prior agreement on all details of the lighting and viewing conditions.

The colors of the paint films to be compared are observed under the specified lighting and viewing conditions, using a color matching cabinet. A procedure for the expression of color difference components (tone, chroma and lightness) is explained using a particular grading scheme, ie. Evaluation of metamerism is also taken into account.

The quality of natural daylight is variable, and observers' judgments are likely to be influenced by nearby colored objects. Therefore, closely controlled artificial lighting will be used in the color matching booth for referee purposes. The observer will wear a neutral colored suit and strongly colored surfaces other than the panels being tested will not be allowed in the field of view.

Among the services provided by our organization within the framework of material testing services, there are also ISO 3668 standard tests.
