ISO 4081 Rubber Hoses and Pipes for Cooling Systems for Internal Combustion Engines

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 4081 standard. The ISO 4081 standard, developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), defines flat or preformed rubber hoses for use in pressurized or unpressurized refrigeration circuits containing 1,2-ethanediol-based refrigerant in internal combustion engines for vehicles with a no-load mass (as defined in ISO), and Specifies requirements for pipes.

Additionally, this specification can also be applied as a classification system to allow original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to detail the "call to line" of tests for certain applications not covered by the major types specified.

In this case, the hose or tubing will not bear any markings indicating this ISO specification number, but may detail the OEM's own identification markings as shown in the parts drawings.

The product shall consist of integrally reinforced or unreinforced rubber materials, which may or may not be preformed before final vulcanization. Hoses and pipes may be branched, in which case the method of connecting the branch should be such that the integrity of the hose is maintained when tested in accordance with this International Standard. This International Standard does not cover methods of attachment to mounting spigots. Here are four types of hose and tubing systems for specific applications:

  • Type 1 = pipes and hoses for ambient operating temperatures from ÿ40°C to +100°C
  • Type 2 = pipes and hoses for ambient operating temperatures from ÿ40°C to +125°C
  • Type 3 = pipes and hoses for ambient operating temperatures from ÿ40°C to +150°C
  • Type 4 = pipes and hoses for ambient operating temperatures from ÿ40°C to + 175°C

Where economically and technically possible, hoses and pipes will use recyclable materials in their construction. In addition, wherever economically and technically possible, hoses and pipes should use materials containing post-consumer or post-industrial recycling products in building materials.

Hole sizes and tolerances shall be in accordance with ISO 1307. Wall thicknesses will be sufficient to meet the requirements of this International Standard.

Among the services provided by our organization within the framework of material testing services, there are also ISO 4081 standard tests. Do not hesitate to contact our laboratory EUROLAB for your testing and certification requests.
