EN 1939 is used to measure the peel adhesion properties of self-adhesive tapes. Adhesive materials are cut into 24 mm wide samples and peeled off the substrate at an angle of 180°.
EN 1939 is divided into four sections describing adhesion to stainless steel, backing, primer, and double-sided tape. The standard also describes methods of performing the peeling at low temperatures and at an angle of 90°. The test usually results in a presented peel strength at an average load divided by the specimen width.
