EN ISO 13937-2 Textiles - Test for Tear Properties of Fabrics

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN ISO 13937-2 testing. This standard covers the only tearing method known as the trousers test, in which a test sample cut into the shape of a trousers is used to determine the tear strength of the fabric.

EN ISO 13937-2 Textiles - Test for Tear Properties of Fabrics

The measured tear force is the force required to propagate a single previously initiated tear when the force is applied parallel to the cut and the fabric tears in the direction of the applied force.

The test is mainly applicable to woven textile fabrics. It can be applied to fabrics produced by other techniques, for example some non-woven fabrics (with the same restrictions as woven fabrics below).

In general, the method is not applicable to knitted fabrics and woven elastic fabrics. Not suitable for anisotropic fabrics or loose fabrics where tear transfer from one side of the fabric to another is likely to occur during the tear test.

The effective clamping points (or lines) of the jaws can be checked by compressing a test specimen under defined pretension with carbon copy paper to create a grip pattern on the test specimen and/or the jaw faces.
