ISO 4587 Adhesives - Determination of Tensile Lapse - Shear Strength of Rigid To Rigid Assemblies

Developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the ISO 4587 standard is used to determine the tensile thrust-shear strength of rigid-to-rigid coupled assemblies using a standard sample under specific preparation and test conditions.

ISO 4587 Adhesives - Determination of Tensile Lapse - Shear Strength of Rigid To Rigid Assemblies

Adhesive lap-shear bond strength is determined in the test by the application of a tensile force parallel to the bond area and the major axis of the sample, by stretching the single lap joint between solid adherents during shear.

The typical sample thickness used for this test is 0,2 mm thick. The ISO standard states that fewer than five samples cannot produce reliable statistical data. Fracture force, rupture stress and rupture type shall be reported.

Samples shall be appropriate to the start, size and alignment of the adhereds. The overlap length will be 12.4 mm ± 0,25 mm. The main exit of the samples should correspond to the rolling direction in case of metal bonding.

Among the services provided by our organization within the framework of material testing services, there are also ISO 4587 standard tests.
