UL 2054 Test Standard for Lithium-Ion Batteries

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance service within the scope of UL 2054 standard. This standard covers portable primary (non-rechargeable) and secondary (rechargeable) lithium-ion batteries for use as power sources in goods. These lithium-ion batteries consist of a single electrochemical cell or two or more lithium-ion cells connected in parallels or in series, or both, which convert chemical energy into electrical energy by chemical reaction.

UL 2054 Test Standard for Lithium-Ion Batteries

UL 2054 certification requirements are aimed at reducing the risk of explosion or fire when lithium-ion batteries are operating in a device. Proper use of these lithium-ion batteries in a particular application is dependent on their use in a complete product that complies with the requirements applicable to such a product.

UL 2054 certification requirements are designed to cover lithium-ion batteries for general use. They do not include the combination of the lithium-ion battery and the main product that is covered by the specifications in the main product standard.

UL 2054 certification requirements are intended to reduce the risk of injury to persons from fire or explosion when lithium-ion batteries are removed from a product to be transported, stocked, or disposed of.

UL 2054 certification requirements do not cover the risk of toxicity from swallowing a lithium-ion battery or its contents, or the risk of injury to someone if a lithium-ion battery is opened to gain access to its contents.

A component need not contain a feature or feature that is not required for the application of the element in the product covered by the UL 2054 standard, or conform to a specific requirement that it supersedes by a requirement in the UL 2054 standard. A component should be used following its rating established for its intended use conditions.

The casing of the lithium-ion cell or single-cell battery or the casing of the lithium polymer battery pack must have the strength and stiffness necessary to withstand potential abuse during its intended use to reduce the risk of fire or injury to persons.
