ISO 5084 Textiles, Determination of Thickness of Textiles and Textile Products

The thickness of a sample is measured as the distance between the reference plate on which the sample rests and a parallel circular presser foot that applies a certain pressure to the area of ​​the textile under test.

A test sample is placed between two reference plates that exert a known pressure on the sample. The vertical distance between the reference plates is measured and recorded after a certain time.

Take samples as appropriate in one of the following ways:

• In accordance with the instructions given in the relevant material specification;
• If such instructions are not included in the material specification, according to the procedure agreed upon by the parties interested in the test results.

Condition the specimens or test specimens in the relaxed state until equilibrium is reached with the standard atmosphere for testing.
