ISO 5636-3 Paper and Cardboard - Determination of Air Permeability (Mid Range) - Part 3: Bendtsen Method

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 5636-3 standard. ISO 5636-3 specifies the Bendtsen method for determining the air permeability of paper and board using the Bendtsen apparatus.

It can be applied to paper and board with air permeability between 0,35 µm/(Pa·s) and 15 µm/(Pa·s) when tested with the Bendtsen apparatus. Not suitable for rough-surfaced materials that cannot be securely clamped to prevent leakage.

ISO 5636 specifies methods for measuring the velocity of air flow through a unit area of ​​a sheet of paper or cardboard under a unit pressure difference. Measurements can be made with any apparatus that complies with the requirements given in ISO 5636.

ISO 5636-1 specifies basic requirements for apparatus and general operating procedures. Other parts of ISO 5636 specify detailed requirements and operating procedures applicable to certain types of devices.

Clamping a test piece between a circular gasket and a circular flat surface of known dimensions, the absolute air pressure of the test piece on one side of the test area is equivalent to atmospheric pressure, and the pressure difference between the two sides of the test piece is kept at a small but largely constant value during the test.
