ISO 6452 Rubber or Plastic Coated Fabrics - Fogging Properties of Car Interior Trim Materials

The ISO 6452 standard, developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), specifies a test method aimed at determining the fogging properties of rubber or plastic coated fabrics used as coating material in the interior of motor vehicles.

The method can also be applied to liquid, pasty, powdery or solid raw materials which are the basis of such trim materials or from which they are produced. The method can also be applied to other materials and finished products. The procedure is applicable to the measurement of fog condensation on glass surfaces within the limits of the test conditions.

This test cannot measure accurately if:

• The surface tension of the condensation is low, resulting in premature coalescence into a thin transparent film;
• Condensate is present in such a large amount that the droplets coalesce to form a heavy oily/clear film (this heavy film gives false readings).

In such cases, the gravimetric method is preferred.

The circulation system, bath capacity and heating system will be such that the temperature can be kept constant at ± 0,5 °C throughout the bath. Agitation of the bath should be done at a slow and even pace.
