EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ISO 6486-2 testing. This standard specifies the permissible limits for the release of lead and cadmium from ceramic ware, glass ceramic ware and glass dinnerware intended for use in contact with food, excluding porcelain enamelware.

ISO 6486-2 Test for Ceramics, Glass-Ceramics and Dinnerware in Contact with Food

This standard applies to ceramic ware, glass-ceramic ware and glass dinnerware intended to be used for the preparation, cooking, serving and storage of food and beverages, excluding products used in the food manufacturing industries or from which food is produced.

Generally, a glass-ceramic is not completely crystalline. Typically, its microstructure is 50-95% crystalline by volume and the remainder consists of residual glass. One or more crystalline phases may form during heat treatment. Since the composition of these is different from the main glass, it is now concluded that the composition of the glass is also different from the main glass. The mechanical properties of glass-ceramics are superior to those of the main glass.

Controlled crystallization gives the material unusual properties. For example, unlike sintered ceramics, glass ceramics are inherently non-porous. However, in some cases, pores may develop later in the crystallization process.
