ISO 7086-1 Food Contact Glass Containers - Release of Lead and Cadmium - Test Method

This standard specifies a test method for the release of lead and cadmium from glass cavities intended for use in contact with food.

This standard is applicable to glass containers intended for use in the preparation, cooking, serving and storage of food and drink, with the exception of glass ceramic ware and glass tableware.

This standard can also be applied to glassware used for packaging in the food industry.

Any product or material intended to come into contact with food, particularly in the industry concerned:

• It should not endanger human health;
• Does not cause any unacceptable changes in the composition of foodstuffs;
• It is expected that foodstuffs will not cause any deterioration in their organoleptic properties.

If lead migration is to be determined, the sample should be covered with a suitable preservative and left in the laboratory under normal lighting conditions. If the migration of lead and cadmium or cadmium is to be determined, the sample is coated so that the surface to be tested is completely dark.
