ISO 7153-1 Surgical Instruments - Materials - Standard Test for Metals

ISO 7153-1 specifies metals commonly used in the manufacture of a variety of standard surgical instruments, including but not limited to those used in general surgery, orthopedics, and dentistry.

Although ISO 7153-1 is not designed for surgical instruments used in special applications such as implantology and minimally invasive surgery, parts of the standard may apply to these instruments.

When choosing the grade of steel and the shape, dimensions and delivery conditions of the raw material for the manufacture of surgical instruments, factors other than these, such as the design of the instrument or the manufacturer's production facilities, must be taken into account. Therefore, the information given in this part of ISO 7153 is not intended and is not intended to relieve the device manufacturer of the responsibility for the decision to select a suitable raw product.

Appropriate properties are neither intended to preclude the use of other types of steel in the manufacture of tools, such as the use of carbon steel for cutting tools.
