ISO 7724-2 Paints and Varnishes - Colorimetry - Standard Test for Color Measurement

Explains the method of determining the color coordinates of paint films. The method is applied only for staining films that appear monochromatic (monochrome) when viewed with normal vision.

Paint films that do not completely obscure a opaque substrate can be measured using this procedure. All other paint films are excluded. The principle consists in measuring spectral photometric properties (spectral reflections or spectral reflection factors) with a spectrophotometer or measuring tristimulus values ​​with a tristimulus colorimeter.

Luminescent paint films, transparent paint films and translucent paint films (for example for indicators or lamp glass), retroreflective paint films (for example for traffic signs) and metallic paint films are outside the scope of this part of ISO 7724.

One of the measurement conditions for illumination and imaging specified in ISO 7724-1 should be selected taking into account the surface texture, the reflectance properties of the paint film under test, and the information to be obtained from the measurement.

If the trystimulus values ​​determined with an integrated sphere without a gloss trap are corrected for surface reflection, results obtained under all measurement conditions with high gloss samples can be compared.
