ISO 7784-2 specifies a method for determining the abrasion resistance of coatings in which two loaded, freely rotating but eccentrically arranged abrasive rubber wheels affect the coating of the rotating test specimen.

Two agreed, pivot-mounted abrasive rubber wheels are pressed onto the coating of the test specimen application, which rotates according to the agreed test load. The eccentric arrangement of the axes of the abrasive wheels with respect to the axis of rotation causes a transverse abrasive wear in the shaped area. After the agreed number of cycles, the loss of pavement mass caused by abrasive wear is determined.

For the specified dimensions of the test specimen, the minimum distance between the wear zone and the edge of the test specimen shall be approximately 7 mm.

If the agreed number of cycles is more than 500, the test will be interrupted after every 500 cycles to redress the abrasive discs. To avoid this situation, it may be appropriate to agree on fewer cycles.
