ISO 812 Rubber, Vulcanized or Thermoplastic - Determination of Low Temperature Fragility

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 812 standard. ISO 812 specifies a method for determining the lowest temperature at which rubber materials do not exhibit brittle deterioration, or the temperature at which half of the test pieces used in a test under certain conditions fail upon impact.

ISO 812 Rubber, Vulcanized or Thermoplastic - Determination of Low Temperature Fragility

The temperatures determined in this way are not necessarily related to the lowest temperature at which the material can be used, as brittleness will be affected by test conditions and particularly the impact rate. Therefore, the data obtained by this method is intended to be used only to predict the behavior of rubbers at low temperatures in applications where deformation conditions are similar to those specified in the test.

Three procedures are described:

  • Procedure A by which the brittleness temperature is determined;
  • Procedure B, in which the brittleness temperature is determined for 50% fracture;
  • The procedure in which the test piece is affected at a certain temperature C.

Procedure C is used for classification of rubber materials and for specification purposes.
