ISO 815-2 Rubber, Vulcanized or Thermoplastic - Determination of Compression Set

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ISO 815-2 testing. This standard specifies two methods for determining the compression set properties of vulcanized and thermoplastic rubbers at low temperatures.

ISO 815-2 Rubber, Vulcanized or Thermoplastic - Determination of Compression Set

Method 1 is derived from the methodology used in ISO 815-1. Method 2 uses a specific tester that allows measuring and recording test piece thickness during recovery. Due to the load applied during recovery in Method 2, a correlation cannot be established between the results given by both methods.

When rubber is held under compression, physical or chemical changes can occur that prevent the rubber from returning to its original dimensions after the deforming force is released. The result is a cluster whose size depends on compression time and temperature as well as time, temperature and recovery conditions. At low temperatures, changes due to glass hardening or crystallization effects dominate, and since these effects are reversed by raising the temperature, measurements are therefore always taken at the test temperature.
