EN 1279-1 Glass in Building - Insulating Glass Units - Part 1: Generalities, System Description, Substitution Rules, Tolerances and Visual Quality

The main purpose of use of insulating glass units is glued glass for windows, doors, curtain walls, doors, windows and curtain walls, roofs and partitions.

Ensuring the requirements of this standard shows that the insulating glass units meet the needs suitable for the purpose of use and ensures that the visual, energetic, acoustic and safety parameters do not change significantly over time by evaluating the compliance with this standard.

Compliance with additional European Technical Specifications is mandatory where there is no protection against direct ultraviolet radiation or permanent shear load at the edge seal, as with bonded glazing for doors, windows and curtain wall systems.

Insulating glass units for artistic purposes (eg lead glass or molten glass) are outside the scope of this standard. Vacuum insulating glass is not within the scope of this standard. Glass/plastic composites are covered as long as the contact surface with the sealants is a glass component.

This European standard gives definitions for insulating glass units and covers the rules for the system definition, optical and visual quality and their dimensional tolerances, and describes substitution rules based on an existing system definition.
