EN 934-3 Concrete - Additives for Mortar and Screed - Part 3: Additives for Masonry Mortar - Definitions - Requirements - Compliance and Marking and Labeling

This European standard defines and specifies the requirements and conformity criteria for additives used in cementitious masonry mortar. It includes two types of additives used in ready-made and construction site wall mortars: long-term retarder and air-entraining / plasticizer.

Provisions for the use of additives for masonry mortar are not part of this European standard, but are covered by EN 998-1 and EN 998-2. Where masonry additives are supplied in containers, they shall be clearly marked with relevant information. When the material is supplied to a bulk container at the point of delivery, the same information shall be given in writing at the time of delivery.

Since some of the materials used in additives are fluid, there is an option to use a capped bottle to be attached during weighing. Some liquid additives form a crust during drying, which prevents complete drying. In these cases, EN 934-1 allows an alternative test procedure to be used.

In the case of a liquid additive, this method will be used to characterize the dry material content. For a powder additive, this method will be used to determine the actual mass of the dried powder.
