This European Standard specifies requirements, test methods and performance criteria for short circuit isolators for use in fire detection and fire alarm systems for buildings.
To comply with this standard, the short-circuit isolator must meet the requirements of this item, tested as described, and meet the requirements of the tests, which will be verified by visual inspection or engineering evaluation. However, for short-circuit isolating devices integrated into other devices already covered by an existing standard, environmental conditioning must be carried out according to EN.
Where the short-circuit isolator provides connections to auxiliary devices, open or short-circuit faults of these connections must not prevent the short-circuit isolator from functioning correctly.
If the short-circuit isolating device is removable, a means shall be provided for a remote monitoring system to detect when the device has been separated from the base to signal a fault. It will not be possible to change the manufacturer's settings except with special tools or to break or remove a seal.
If there is a provision for on-site adjustment of the short-circuit isolator, the short-circuit isolator shall comply with the requirements of this standard for each setting. Access to the adjustment tools will only be possible using a code or special tool.
Each short circuit isolator must be clearly marked with the following information:
